How Many Pets Can I Have Registered To Address In South Milwaukee
If you lot like a firm total of dogs or cats, you may not want to alive in Greenfield, apparently one of the almost restrictive communities in Milwaukee Canton when information technology comes to how many pets residents can have.
According to information supplied by the Milwaukee Surface area Animal Control Commission, Greenfield is one of five Milwaukee County communities that limits households to no more than two pets.
The other 15 Milwaukee County communities are more liberal.
Eight let upwardly to three pets and half-dozen allow four to half-dozen. River Hills has no limit.
Fancier permit
However, virtually communities, including Greenfield, allow families to go over the limit if they buy a pet-fancier let.
Families buying the permits in almost whatever of the five nigh restrictive communities, can either have equally many pets as they desire or they tin can have upward to eight more, according to a Greenfield survey of other communities.
That is except for Greenfield. Greenfield lets fanciers accept 2 more dogs or ii more than cats.
But 4 is merely non enough, in some people's eyes.
'Un-dog' friendly?
"I don't like how un-canis familiaris friendly this city is," Lindsey Phenis wrote in an email to Darren Rausch, Greenfield Health Section director. "I piece of work with several rescue groups and nosotros've had to plow some applicants downwardly because they were at their 2 pet limit and didn't desire to deal with having to pay for a pet-fancier permit in addition to the license fee."
Phenis said she has paid Greenfield $45 for the pet-fancier permit for the past 7 years.
She is one of xx people to have purchased the permits along with 7 businesses, such as pet shops and grooming establishments that also buy permits.
"I don't retrieve raising the pet limit to three and the fancier permit to five is out of line and seems very comparable to what the other cities have," Phenis wrote.
Reconsider?
She said she hopes to convince someone on the Greenfield Board of Wellness to call the issue back for a reconsideration side by side month. The board of health considered raising the pet limit merely unanimously decided to keep it as is on Thursday, Jan. x. Phenis was one of two residents who asked the health lath to raise the limit.
Rausch approves of the lath'southward decision.
"It looks like we're right in the ballpark," compared with the twenty other Milwaukee County communities, Rausch said.
Limit was higher
At one time, Greenfield had raised the limit to allow four additional pets with a fancier let, bringing the total allowed to half-dozen, Rausch told the wellness lath.
Nevertheless, information technology then reduced the number of additional pets to two in 2009, he said. That brought the total down from half-dozen allowable pets with a permit to the electric current four.
"At that time, our determination was that nosotros immune upward to half dozen full animals and that was more similar communities who permitted four to 5 total animals, Rausch said after the coming together.

The size of Greenfield's home lots might accept played a part in the conclusion.
"That was besides many animals for people to take care of on a city lot," Rausch said of the half dozen that had been immune until 2009.
However, Milwaukee, Due west Allis and Cudahy don't appear to entirely agree.
Milwaukee allows up to five pets with a permit; Westward Allis allows 4 dogs and 6 cats with a permit; and Cudahy allows up to three pets without a permit doesn't appear to limit the number with a permit.

About right
However, Greenfield's limit of four with a permit is just about right, Karen Sparapani, executive director of MADACC, wrote to the board of health.
She noted in her advice that MADACC'southward resource are stretched when it has to bargain with a number of pets that have to be removed from homes, Rausch told the board. For example, one firm had four animals that needed to exist removed and fifty-fifty that was difficult for MADACC to handle, Rausch said.
Added to that are the homes such as a recent one where 19 dogs and 22 birds had to exist removed, he said. "Breeding got out of control," in that example, he said.
